Dementia Positive Pendle Pixe Fundraiser

Who We Are

Dementia Positive Pendle (formerly known as the Pendle Dementia Action Alliance) was set up in 2016 with the aim of developing Pendle as a dementia friendly community.

We have a clear vision for a dementia friendly Pendle where people are understood, respected and supported, enabling those with dementia to live well in the community they choose by:

Working to improve understanding, knowledge and awareness of dementia amongst the public.

Providing support and practical advice.

Providing facilities for recreation or other leisure time activities for individuals and their families/carers.

In 2024 we proudly became a registered charity. We are fully committed to using funds raised, to work towards creating a Dementia Friendly Pendle.

Summer of Love Fund Raiser event - Dementia Positive Pendle Team

In the last 12 months we have commissioned a Home Support Booklet to provide information and support tools to those living with dementia and their significant others in the Pendle area. This has been developed with Neil Floyd from the My Colourful Memories Organisation, who has previously successfully developed and distributed a Home Support Toolkit for the Hyndburn area.

Alongside this we have organised several large social events, with various themes ranging from King Charles Coronation and a Summer of love event to regular Christmas parties, where people living with dementia in Pendle can enjoy an afternoon of live music, socialising and dancing. Each event has been attended on average by over 100 people. We have been very kindly supported by Colne British Legion and Colne Town Hall in organising these fun and memorable afternoons.

We directly support three memory cafes in the Pendle Area. The Forget Me Not Café in Brierfield and the Butterflies Cafés in Colne and Barnoldswick. We have provided equipment for the groups and enabled the groups to provide extra activities for their members including hand massage and Yoga sessions.

From 2016 we have worked in unison with other organisations providing support to people living with dementia and their significant others in the Pendle Area. These organisations include Pendleside Hospice, Age UK, Carerslink, Dementia UK and the Admiral nursing service, The Alzheimer’s society, Pendle East and West PCNS. Representatives of these organisations are also members of the Dementia Positive Pendle Steering Group.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful people who have and continue to support Dementia Positive Pendle working towards a Dementia Friendly Pendle.
